Re-Elect Elizabeth “Liz” Powell for Secretary-Treasurer

Greetings my APWU Family, my name is Elizabeth “Liz” Powell, and I am your Secretary-Treasurer seeking re-election to this position for the following reasons.

This position demands knowledge, experience, an understanding of the finances and of the many issues facing postal employees. It is imperative that we elect officers to represent and protect the rights of every member of the APWU! We need a Secretary Treasurer who effectuates positive change within our union and who believes our members are the most important persons within the APWU. We need a Secretary Treasurer who will not twist the facts to benefit themselves but one who will tell you the truth as the record speaks for itself. I am that Secretary-Treasurer, and in today’s postal reality it takes leadership to protect the membership.

Three main priorities have been constant in my service to union members: First, to ensure that our treasury is strong as we fight the never-ending battles against those who constantly seek to undermine our jobs and standard of living and to ensure the interests of the membership are protected and the resources of this great union are accurately and transparently accounted for. 

Second, to enforce the provisions of our union’s Constitution & By-Laws to ensure that you have a voice in our union. Third, as Secretary-Treasurer, I am dedicated to serving you, the members, and I will continue to fight to make certain the union remains financially secure so we can administer to the operational needs of our union and work together to ensure we have the necessary tools to enforce the contract and represent the membership. 

I believe the members are the most important part of the APWU and have consistently extended myself to provide the state and local unions with all the assistance and viable resources necessary, to better perform their important fiduciary duties, so they can provide maximum representation.  

Management’s continuous assault has caused our membership and dues to decline, but under my leadership. the APWU has continued in the black. That is a testament to the responsible financial controls we have implemented at the national level to live up to our commitment to use our union’s resources to protect the interests of our members.

The APWU needs strong and capable leadership to continue to protect our finances and our members. In the years ahead we will need the strength, wisdom and endurance of officers who have learned to work and struggle together.

I believe, respect and support the membership.  I believe in unity, solidarity and democracy.  I believe in myself and my ability to represent you and I can assure you that my dedication to the APWU and sincere concern for the welfare of our members remains unchanged.  With your vote and support I will continue to strive to put forth the best efforts to protect your interests.
